Crisis in the Classroom Conflicting values put school districts in a financial pinch

Orangefield ISD is one of the five school districts in Orange County feeling a financial pinch, caught in the middle of a battle between the state and the local appraisal district. Public schools in Texas receive funding based on enrollment and average daily attendance, but the state also relies on property taxes to finance education.
