The opening of the 2022/2023 academic year had the theme 'Planetary Boundaries’. The opening took place on September 5, 2022. This is the opening speech by Sjoukje Heimovaara, the new president of the Executive Board of Wageningen University Research. • In her speech, Heimovaara stressed the urgency of this year’s OAY theme, ‘planetary boundaries’. These boundaries, including climate change and ocean acidification, cannot be crossed with impunity. Wageningen researchers will have to provide policymakers and society with knowledge and scenarios to make transitions possible.
