Fruit leathers are so easy to make and a great way to use and store seasonal fruit from your garden, farmers market, or store. They keep really well and will store in a sterilized air-tight container for a long time. I don’t know how long they last because they never last in our house, and the kids eat them up really quickly. If they are properly dried out, they should last about a month or two, and you can also pop them in the freezer. • Recipes: • · 500. Rip blackcurrants • · 4 tbsp maple syrup • 1. Blend the blackcurrants with the syrup into a thick, runny, smooth consistency. • 2. If you don’t like seeds, you can always push the mixture through a sieve to remove the seeds • 3. Pour over a dehydrator sheet and spread evenly. It should be about 2/3mm thick. • 4. Dry in a dehydrator to around 55C until completely dry. This should take 6-8 hours, depending on the exact thickness of the leather. • 5. Or– Spread the mixture onto a baking sheet and place in the oven for 8 hours with the door open a little at 90C or as low as your oven will go. • 6. Leave to cool, cut into long strips of your desired length, and roll up. Store in a glass airtight jar. They should be kept for up to a month but longer if stored in the freezer. • https://zerowastefamily.com/homemade-... • -------------- • If you want to know more about growing food in small spaces, check out our course. • https://the-zero-waste-family.newzenl... • For more tips on raising a family zero waste and money saving tips can be found in our book A Practical Guide to Zero Waste for Families. • https://www.amazon.com/Zero-Waste-Fam... • We’re a family of five living zero-waste, plant-based, mindfully minimal so that both our kids and planet can enjoy a beautiful, thriving future.
