WHY DOES THIS MERMAID JINGLE? Do you hear that jingling noise when the mermaid is swimming? The noise is coming from the bells tied around her waist, wrists, neck and hair. This is Mermaid Shadow, a wandering river mermaid. Long, long ago, she was captured by a fisherman during her time in one of China's many rivers. She managed to escape the grasp of the fisherman when Gan Ning and his pirate crew sailed up to the riverbank and scared away the fisherman, allowing her enough time to escape. Whether they ever made contact is unknown, but she certainly sees him as a hero and has obviously adopted some of his techniques for scaring away would-be trouble makers... which is precisely why she wears the bells! • As some of you may know, this is Lake Michigan, not a river in China. And she is a river mermaid, who admires a Chinese pirate (ex-pirate). Why is she in a lake? Well, this mermaid has a horrible sense of direction... to make a long story short!
