The Greenland shark is a large species of sleeper shark that inhabits the cold, deep waters of the North Atlantic Ocean and Arctic Ocean. They are one of the largest species of sharks, growing up to 7 meters in length and weighing over 1000 kilograms. Greenland sharks have a very slow metabolism and growth rate, estimated to grow only about 1 centimeter per year. It takes them approximately 150 years to reach maturity. Many scientists estimate that can live up to 500 years. They are mostly brown or dark grey in color with dark lines along their bodies which provide camouflage in the deep, dark waters. Greenland sharks are opportunistic predators and scavengers, feeding on a variety of prey like fish, seals, whales, and even reindeer and polar bear carcasses. Their unique physiology allows them to tolerate the near-freezing waters they inhabit. Despite their large size, Greenland sharks are quite harmless to humans due to their sluggish nature. They are, however, threatened by climate change and fishing activities in the Arctic. • #shorts #animalshorts #sharks #greenlandsharks #greenlandshark #wildlifedocumentaries #animalfacts #seacreatures #marinelife
