What Really Happened To AVANTGARDEY On AGT Live Show 2023? This week had a few acts that were impressive in the auditions but took it up another notch for the qualifiers. Prior to the performance, the group worries about connecting to the American audience as they perform to a Japanese song. The girls currently have day jobs, but they want to be able to perform full-time. Winning AGT could be a start, as well as a way to star in the AGT show in Vegas. • The dance crew performs using the same beloved quirky style they brought in the audition, but this time they amp up the scary vibes, taking the act a bit more down a horror route without going too far with it. It is a very fast paced act with a lot of movement across the stage. I personally think they stepped it up from their impressive audition. The dancing is so unique that I believe there is a market for their type of act. I don’t think I’ve seen an act that moves the way they do. I could totally imagine an Avantgardey fronted Vegas show. • Heidi Klum says they are one of her favorite dance crews and notes “you set yourself apart from all the other dancers because of the unique look you have and unique movements you make.” Sofia Vergara calls it so “weird and scary” that she “loves it.” Simon Cowell calls the act “so different” and notes how dance groups have gotten better this year after a lackluster few years of dance on the show. Howie Mandel calls them his “favorite in the dance acts.” He endorses them to become one of the two voted through. • Avantgardey deserves a spot in the finals. Will they get one? We are not super sure about that. The Ramadhani Brothers will soar through after turning in the best balancing act of the season. Sofia’s golden buzzer, Gabriel Henrique could be contending for a spot as he is very talented, and his whistle notes are impressive. This final week of qualifier acts was very strong, and even acts like the 82nd Airborne Division Chorus and Lachune, while not super flashy, turned in very solid performances. • Who Are Avantgardey? • Hailing from Osaka, Japan, the all-girl dance group called Avantegardey came all the way to the America's Got Talent stage to perform a jaw dropping routine. And after their applaudable performance, it's safe to say that their travels paid off. • We have an original dance piece filled with Japanese soul, one of the group members stated when asked what makes Avantgardey stand out from other dance troupes America's Got Talent has seen before. • After taking the stage, the group started out their routine to an upbeat instrumental song while all wearing matching black and white dresses. During the number, the group performed intricate choreography, moving their feet and bobbing their heads together to the rhythm in perfect harmony. • When the song was over, Avantagrdey struck a confident pose and received a much-deserved standing ovation from Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum. • • Avantgardey appeared on the 2nd audition session of America’s Got Talent, 2023. Formed in 2022 in Osaka, Japan, Avantgardey has gained a reputation on social media as, in the words of Japanese site Akanekikaku, the “mysterious school-uniformed bobbed-hair group”. • After the performance, Heidi Klum says, “I really think I saw your Japanese soul.” While clearly complementary, this sounds a trifle tone-deaf in these times of heightened cultural sensitivity. Again there is a simple answer. The AGT video does not show the preliminary comments before the performance.
